Erin Burke Studios Portrait Photography Columbus Ohio

What to Expect

Now that you have made the amazing decision to choose Erin Burke Studios for your portrait session, I want to provide you with a guide as to what to expect from your session and a little {Q & A} to explain a few points in detail.

  • You will receive a client questionnaire via email to complete and return to me. This helps me get to know you and your vision for the session.
  • We will schedule a consultation to go over your vision and discuss ideas.  The consultation can be done by phone, email or in person – what ever you prefer.  Please provide any web links and/or images that represent your ideas and vision (Pinterest is great for this! You can just share the board with me) or if you want to use specific props during your session.
  • If you need any ideas on what to wear or hair and makeup, check out my Pinterest page!
  • We will confirm the date and time for your session and discuss location options, if you haven’t already decided.  You can also book the session online to reserve your slot.
  • To officially secure your session date, you will receive a deposit request via email for $100, with the remaining amount due before the session.
  • I will also send a photography contract to you via email to sign and return to me.  The contract will have details regarding the proofs, weather issues, payment, etc., and your electronic signature acknowledges that you agree to the terms.
  • You will receive reminders emails or texts, which ever you prefer, as the session date approaches.
  • If makeup or hair services are scheduled, payment for the services will be made directly to the artist the day of the session.

Day of Session

  • Please be on time.  If you are running late or if something came up, please call or text me as soon as possible to adjust the time or reschedule the session.
  • Be happy! You do not have to smile ear-to-ear, actually I prefer that you didn’t because it’s just not natural (LOL) – just look like you are a willing participant and not a hostage.
  • If the balance of the session has not been paid yet, it is due before the session actually starts.
  • If makeup or hair services are scheduled, make sure payment for the services are made directly to the artist.

  • After the session, the images are narrowed down and edited.  This can take 2-3 weeks, unless otherwise specified.  If a rush is needed on the editing process, this needs to be discussed during the pre-session consultation, as there may be an additional fee.
  • Once the images have been edited, we will schedule a reveal session so you can see your proof gallery.  Since a product credit is included in your session cost, product options can be discussed at the reveal.  Additional products can also be purchased and paid for separately.
  • All additional print orders must be paid in full before the fulfillment order is placed.
  • Once the print order delivers to my studio, we will set up an appointment for you to pick-up your items or for personal delivery to your home.
  • If you order digital files only, you will receive a custom flash drive with your images without my studio watermark, and a Print Release.
  • When you share images online, make sure to tag “Erin Burke Photography” or add it in the caption for the photo credit.

{ Q & A }

Why are you sending me a questionnaire?
Because I want to get to know you better! Also, so I can tailor the session and any props to you. Your experience during the session is just as important as the final images that result.

Why do you schedule consultations?
So we can talk face-to-face about your expectations before your session, what you want to do with your images (hanging images in your home, creating an album, sending prints to family). Come prepared with examples of what you like or want to do – create a secret Pinterest board too!

I highly encourage my clients to order professional prints so I can ensure the quality of the images you receive and my work is represented (retail photo labs dis-color images and changes it completely). Going over print options together, I can answer questions for you and show you examples of the different options.

Why do you send a photography contract?
The contract is for both our records as it specifies the date, time, location, and payment details, and covers what happens if there is inclement weather or an unexpected cancellation or if the session needs to be re-scheduled, as well as post-session time frames.

The contract is an electronic document sent via email, and you simply sign it digitally (type your name) as the approving signature, and you will submit it back to me. Please read the contract carefully and if you do not understand any point in it, please contact me for clarification.

Why do I pay a deposit?
The electronic deposit request will be sent to your email for payment.  The deposit officially reserves the date and time for your session, meaning that no one else can be booked in that same time slot.  Since I cannot book anyone else during that time, if you are a no-show or cancel the day of for any reason, I cannot book another session in its place, therefore the deposit is non-refundable.

Since the deposit is non-refundable, so we would re-schedule your session if we cannot adjust the time for the same day. Please note, there may be an additional deposit required for last minute cancellations; however there is an additional deposit required for no-shows.

Why do you send me reminders?
In case you forgot to note the session on your calendar, or if you have a balance due and the session date is approaching, I want to keep everyone up-to-date on the status of the session.  This also provides opportunity to communicate any schedule conflicts that may have come up in the meantime. Let me know if you prefer text or email reminders.

Can I pay the balance on the day of the session?
Yes you can!  Let me know if that is your intention so I do not send you unnecessary payment reminders.  The payment must be made before the session starts.

What are the accepted forms of payment?
Cash, Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), Debit Card (Visa, MasterCard), PayPal or the Cash.Me app (powered by Square).

How do I pay for makeup or hair styling services?
Erin Burke Studios only coordinates the makeup and/or hair stylist for the session, as the stylist is paid directly by the client on the day of the service(s). Payment options may vary with each artist/stylist.

What happens if the weather does not cooperate for an outdoor session?
We will re-schedule (either adjust the time same day, or select a new date) if we are not able to move indoors. Changing location may cause the session to run long, but at no additional charge.

What happens if we need to re-schedule the session?
As soon as you know you need to re-schedule, contact me to make arrangements – call, text or email. Please give as much notice as you can – last minute cancellations and no-shows can be re-scheduled but may be subject to an additional deposit.

Why do you schedule a reveal session for my proof images?
Mostly because I love seeing the reaction of clients when they see them for the first time! During the reveal we can also discuss product options, like ready-to-hang options, photo books or albums, announcements and more. Once you see your proofs, I know you will want to order more products than what is included in your session cost – I promise you will love them!

What does ‘edited’ mean?
I edit images with an artistic touch. I remove blemishes, balance skin tones, even lighting and shadows, retouch skin, brighten eyes and teeth, and add subtle artistic and color enhancements. I do not alter the physical appearance creating a new person – just enhance your beauty as it is.

What is a ‘composite’ edit?
Two or more images combined into a single final product. This can be used if someone is blinking and eyes are swapped out from another image (which is fairly common), or adding special graphics or changing out the background (which is more advanced and is at an additional charge).

Why do print orders not ship directly to me?
Because I want to ensure the quality of the products before you receive them.  This way if any items have damage or are of sub-par quality, I can have it corrected before you see the error and have to deal with the whole mess.

What is a Print Release?
A Print Release is included with the purchase of high-resolution digital file.  If you chose to print images at a retail print lab, they will require a Print Release to ensure they are not violating any copyright laws by printing and distributing the image(s).  The Print Release only gives the bearer permission to reproduce the images for personal use only.  The release does not include use that results in financial gain for the client, including but not limited to: advertising, stock photography, print sale profits, or resale of any nature.
